PASTORAL
CURRICULUM
At Banbridge High School we deliver a dynamic and diverse pastoral curriculum that reflects a whole school commitment to emotional health and wellbeing. The pastoral curriculum is driven by a new theme-based approach, that is relevant, inclusive, engaging and responsive to the needs of our pupils. The new pastoral curriculum will also support the preventative curriculum based on the ever-changing needs of our students. Across all year groups the diverse pastoral curriculum is relevant and relational, embracing the ethos of the school’s core values ‘Ready, Respectful, Safe’, while also meeting the statutory requirement of a broad and balanced curriculum. The form class pastoral programme, LLW, Global Citizenship, assemblies and visiting speakers will dovetail to ensure the statutory nature of the curriculum is being addressed. The whole school nurture approach aims to support the emotional health and wellbeing of all students.
The school strives to be a vibrant and challenging community which through innovative learning and teaching seeks to meet the physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual needs of all. Pupils are encouraged to manage their own learning and to make informed responses and decisions. Self-discipline, self-reflection and a focus on increased personal responsibility are actively promoted. Wellbeing and Enrichment weeks are important events in the school calendar that are thoroughly enjoyed by all pupils.
Pupils are also encouraged to participate in the decision-making process via the School Council and through the development of pupil voice throughout the school. In addition, the school seeks to promote an effective home school partnership with parents, nurtured through an ‘open door’ policy. Induction Day, Parents’ Evenings, Information Afternoons, School Play, Prize Evening and Carol Service and concerts all combine to strengthen this important link.
A wide range of outside agencies deliver workshops that enhance the pastoral provision including Thrive Academy, Women’s Aid, Love for Life, Futureproof, Exodus Soar Leadership, Reach Mentoring, PIPS, Smashed, Education Authority, REACH Youth Council, PSNI and Action Mental Health
